Neath's Gnoll Lodge
set a blistering pace
with £10,000 donation

The Gnoll Lodge No. 5057 in Neath celebrated another successful Installation festival in November 2005 when the Master of the Lodge installed his successor.

In itself, this was nothing particularly unusual, but the after proceedings provided a welcome and unexpected surprise to the Executive officer on duty, Andrew Gretton. Following the usual toasts, which were appropriately responded to, the formal toast to Masonic Charities was proposed by the Lodge Charity Steward Jim Wolsey.

However, prior to proposing the formal toast, Jim eloquently assured Andrew Gretton who is Chairman of the 2010 Festival Committee that all members of the Gnoll Lodge, and in the Province generally, were directing their fund raising activities towards supporting the 2010 festival that our Province is hosting in aid of The Grand Charity.

The appreciative smile on the face of the Assistant Provincial Grand Master however soon turned to an expression of complete amazement when Jim, on behalf of the Gnoll Lodge presented the Chairman of the festival committee, Andrew Gretton with a cheque to the value of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS! The Chairman's jaw dropped with an almost audible thump, such was his delight and amazement at the Lodge's generosity. The spontaneous applause that greeted the presentation was generous and long lasting - demonstrating everyone's delight at this magnificent effort.

The motto of the Gnoll Lodge is "Bid Ben, Bid Bont" which translates as "be you a leader, you are also a bridge" and there can be no better example of a Lodge bridging the Charity's need than with this substantial donation, and the lead shown by Gnoll in raising such a magnificent sum to add to the not inconsiderable total already donated by the Gnoll Lodge towards the 2010 festival.

This is surely an example for all Lodges to follow and we warmly congratulate the Master and members of Gnoll Lodge on their ongoing and magnificent efforts to date.
