The Lodge takes its name from the ship moored on the River
Tay at Dundee, which was associated with the Antarctic explorations of Captain
R.F. Scott, C.V.O.
The ship was launched on 21 March 1901, and was the sixth
ship to bear that name. The displacement tonnage was one thousand six hundred
tons, and she was built on the Tay of stout English oak.
