Our Lodges help Junnie to top £12,000 raised for Ty-Hafan in 2½ years

Mrs Junnie Brittain of Kenfig Hill, Bridgend, is a remarkable lady who, over recent years, has dedicated herself to raising funds for Ty-Hafan Children's Hospice near Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Mrs Brittain tells us that she has cleaned windows, dug gardens and decorated homes (mainly for the elderly) in her spare time at weekends

Collections and car- boot sales also feature in her efforts to raise money for this most worthy cause.

Above: a magnificent example of Mrs Brittain's efforts

Having already raised £12,200, Mrs Brittain was beginning to find it a bit difficult to keep asking the same people in her community to support her time and again - even in such a noble venture. Then she had a flash of inspiration! The Freemasons claim that they support charity, don't they? Why not see if they'll put their money where their mouths are?!

Well the truth is that as far as Ty-Hafan is concerned, Freemasonry is already a major contributor. We don't keep figures centrally, but Ty Hafan are on record as telling the South Wales Echo that Freemasonry had donated £145,000 between January 1999 and April 2001.

Despite that, after hearing of Mrs Brittain's efforts, the Province has sent her a cheque for £250 and local Lodges are still joining in to support her in her latest venture - a sponsored cross-stitch picture (shown above) for the hospice.

As far as we know, prior to this, Mrs Brittain had no connection with Freemasonry. We just feel that efforts such as hers should not go unrewarded - or unreported.
