We've been digging deep for charities!
By Jenny Rees

IT'S been a busy time for a group of generous people who have donated money and gifts to local charities and schools and even thrown a children's party.

The Bridgend Masonic Lodges have dug deep into their pockets to help out, for instance, the Princess of Wales Scanner Appeal.

It received £1,000 from the Adare Lodge and £500 from the Ogmore Lodge.

Appeal trustee Dilwyn Thomas gratefully accepted the donations.

It was party time for pupils at Ysgol Castell Newydd and Heronsbridge School when they were treated to a plentiful supply of goodies to eat and drink - followed by the all-important helping of ice cream.

They were also amazed by the magic and wizardry of Mike Church, who had the youngsters rocking in their seats.

Each child was given a present, as well as a goody bag to take on their return journey.

But the lodges' generosity didn't stop there.

The social committee extended their help further afield by responding to the Samaritans Purse "Operation Christmas Child" appeal, filling 120 boxes with toys.

The charity is dedicated to the relief of suffering children abroad who are homeless, orphaned or blighted by ill health, poverty, natural disasters or war.
