What IS the
Internet Mailing List?
It's a bit like a parish notice
board! You send an e-mail to the list - it is received by all
the other members of the list - simple isn't it?
Conversely, of course, you will
receive all the e-mail sent to list the by each of the other
members.
There are many Masonic Mailing
Lists, but this is the first to be largely (although not
exclusively) concerned with South Wales.
What sort of
messages can be sent/received?
They should be at least loosely
related to Freemasonry or Masonic life in South Wales. For
example: Social Notices; Questions and Answers; Jokes; "For
Sale", "Wanted" and "Swaps" (although
not as part of a commercial venture). In terms of taste, you
should not post anything (especially jokes) that you would not
expect to hear used in an address to a Festive Board.
Within reason, it can be anything
that we want it to be! The list was launched at the
beginning of August 1999 and has developed something of a
character of its own - information mixed with good-natured
gentle fun!
If any message
is seen as being unsuitable by the List Owners (whose decision
is FINAL), the author may well find his membership of the list
suspended or terminated.
Who can join
the list?
Membership of
the list is restricted to Freemasons; and primarily those who are members
of lodges within the Province of South Wales (Eastern Division).
Masons from neighbouring Provinces (or elsewhere) who
particularly wish to join will not be turned away. We presently
have members in Australia, Austria, Canada, England, France,
India, Ireland (North and Republic), Lebanon, Madagascar, New
Zealand, Scotland South Africa and (last but not least) the USA!
Having said this, submissions
to the list should be phrased on the assumption that non-masons
will be able to view the messages. The list should certainly not be
considered to be 100%
"secure".
We are not able
to accept applications from members of jurisdictions whose Grand
Lodge (or governing body) is not currently in amity with the
United Grand Lodge of England.
The List Owners
reserve the right to refuse, suspend or terminate any
membership.
How much does
the service cost?
It's FREE! (Now
you're really interested, aren't you?!!)
The downside is that each
message can be accompanied by an advertisement (added by the
service provider). They say these shouldn't be too obtrusive or
slow up downloading too much - and that's certainly the case up
to now.
So what have you got to lose?
OK, OK, you've convinced
me....... so how do I join?
